(02/07/00) First celebrated in 1897 as a diversion for tuberculosis patients taking the mountain air "cure," the Saranac Lake Winter Festival includes the construction of an elaborate ice palace, races, snow sculpture, concerts, dinners, dancing, the crowning of royalty and a fireworks display.
