Watertown, NY, May 02, 2013 — The Sackets Harbor Vocal Arts Ensemble will pay tribute, through song, to the 272 Fort Drum soldiers who died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last decade. The choir will perform its Remembering the Fallen concert on Sunday, 3 pm, at Trinity Espiscopal Church in Watertown. The concert will feature soloists Diana Gamet and Phillip Addis.

Todd Moe spoke with Richard Probert, director and founder of the choral group, about performing Brahm's "Requiem" and Vaughan Williams' "Dona, Nobis, Pacem." Probert says Vaughan Williams, a soldier in World War One, used the poetry of Walt Whitman.  Go to full article

Lake Placid, NY, Dec 19, 2012 — A northern Adirondack chamber choral group will perform Festival of Lessons and Carols on Friday night at Notre Dame Church in Malone, St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh on Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. The Northern Adirondack Vocal Ensemble, or "NAVE", has twenty singers from Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties. It's conducted by Andrew Benware. Potsdam, NY, Nov 10, 2010 — Love and adventure in Manhattan in the 1940s comes to the Snell Music Theatre at SUNY Potsdam this weekend. More than 70 drama, dance and music students are part of the collaborative production of On the Town. The show opens Thursday night (7:30 pm) and continues through Saturday night.

On the Town premiered on Broadway in 1944 and features the music of Leonard Bernstein. It includes numerous dance numbers and memorable songs like "New York, New York" and "I Can Cook Too." Watertown, NY, Oct 20, 2010 — The Northern Blend Chorus is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a new recording and concert on Saturday night. Carthage, NY, Jun 23, 2010 — A teenager from the tiny Jefferson County town of Carthage will soon step onto one of the nation's biggest stages. Gabrielle LaBare was selected to sing opera and other choral arrangements in the National Honor Ensembles at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

She'll take the stage with other student musicians, representing 35 states. The National Association for Music Education considers LaBare and the other performers the best in the United States.

Even though she's only 16, LaBare told Jonathan Brown she's been singing quite a while.  Go to full article
