(11/05/01) Brian Mann was in New York City on Friday. He was reporting on the tensions and anxieties faced by North Country police, rescue, and military crews assigned to work in the city. While at ground zero, those tensions boiled over as city firefighters and the NYPD faced off for what quickly became a brawl.

(05/04/01) High winds and dry weather have led to a rash of wildfires in the North Country this week. Nearly 500 acres of timber and farmland burned in the towns of Essex and Willsboro yesterday. The blaze was started by sparks thrown from a passing train. Brian Mann reports.

(03/01/01) A new curriculum for future firefighters may be coming to Jefferson Community College. Its still in the early stages, but college and area fire officials are putting their heads together to find out if a Fire Protection Technology program is viable on the JCC campus. As Jody Tosti reports, the new course would allow students more time in the classroom instead of the car.

Meet the Masters: Norwood Brass Firemen, Community Brass Band
(06/05/00) The Volunteer Fire Department Band of Norwood (more familiar to many as the Norwood Brass Firemen) dates back to the late nineteenth century. Varying over the years from eight to twenty four members, they have played at everything from local celebrations to presidential inaugurations and the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia.

Meet the Masters: Brier Hill Volunteer F.D. Bullhead Feed
(03/27/00) The Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Department continues one of the region's oldest community suppers--a bullhead feed. Begun in 1937 as a fundraiser, the bullhead feed is a community-wide social event, with nearly 1000 meals served. An informal master-apprentice system prepares young cooks, who are trusted with the well-guarded "secret recipe" for this regional specialty.
