(11/11/11) There are support groups for service members and spouses, but what about the children of 10th Mountain Division soldiers sent overseas? Last spring, a theater class at Indian River High School teamed up with a local playwright to produce a very personal look at how teens respond to their parents' deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. In response to positive reaction, the play, In My Shoes, will be performed again tonight in Sackets Harbor and Saturday night in Clayton. Todd Moe met the students and creative team last June.

(09/29/11) The Indian River Central School District in Jefferson County is growing, fast. As the school year began this fall, the district received 90 new students in nine school days. Nearly 70 percent of the district's students come from military families, so numbers fluctuate with deployments and as housing is built on Fort Drum and in surrounding areas. Reporter Joanna Richards spoke with Assistant Superintendent Mary Anne Dobmeier about population trends at Indian River, and how the district is absorbing so many new students after the school year has begun. more

(10/08/09) Three North Country theater groups will present a staged reading next Monday at 8 pm as an epilogue to The Laramie Project. It focuses on the long-term effects of the murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man in Laramie, Wyoming. The readings will be performed simultaneously at more than a hundred other theaters around the world. Pendragon Theatre, in Saranac Lake, with help from St. Lawrence University, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, in partnership with the North Country School, and Indian River Central School will participate in readings of The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later. Todd Moe talks with Kristie Fuller, theater director at Indian River Central School, about her school's participation. Her students produced The Laramie Project in 2007.

(02/14/00) Beginning in 1954 with a roadside statue of the Virgin Mary, Veronica Terrillion has created a remarkable thing, a total environment of sculpture on her three-acre homestead in Lewis County. Over 400 images include animals (zebra, deer), religious images (a nativity scene and St. Francis of Assisi), and representations of her family members.
