Police search for thief who stole $5000 in metals from DEC site
We’re seeing a sharp increase in copper thefts simply to sell it for the scrap value.
(12/28/11) The state department of environmental conservation is looking for help in finding the person or people who stole brass and copper tubing, pipes, fittings and other items from a St. Lawrence County petroleum contamination cleanup site.

The DEC discovered last week that someone had broken into buildings at the former Jones and Laughlin Ore Processing site on State Route 3 outside of Newton Falls. more

(07/08/11) NCPR is media sponsor for Elements in Alliance: Natural Visions, an installation of sculpture, furniture and painting at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. The show opens tonight with a reception from 5-7 pm. The exhibit, which continues through August 7th, features the art of John Van Alstine, Jonathan Sweet, Caroline Ramersdorfer and Barney Bellinger. Todd Moe spoke with John Van Alstine about the exhibit.

Thieves stealing metal for scrap
(07/31/08) Law enforcement officials in the North Country are reporting a spike in thefts of steel, copper and other metals from building sites, abandoned homes and even parked cars. Police blame the crimes on the high price of metals, as many people are looking to cash in at scrap yards around the region. Chris Knight reports.
