(02/24/12) The US Postal Service plans to close the Plattsburgh customer service mail processing center on Veteran's Lane, and move its operations to an Albany facility. 55 jobs will be lost.
It's part of a national plan to close processing plants affecting more than 100,000 jobs nation wide. There's no specific date for the Plattsburgh closure yet. Martha Foley has more. more

(12/23/11) The US Postal Service is in crisis mode, trying to downsize while wrestling with billions of dollars in deficits. Dozens of local post offices have been targeted for possible closure. And as many as 200 mail processing centers around the country may also shut down - including facilities in Plattsburgh, Glens Falls and White River Junction, Vermont. (09/28/11) A group of postal workers and retirees rallied outside of Representative Bill Owens's office in Watertown Tuesday, urging him to pass a bill that would help save the Postal Service from its current financial worries. If the bill passes, it could save local post office branches from closing. Joanna Richards was there and has more on the story. more
(06/15/11) A dozen post offices in the North Country may close by the end of the year. These closings are part of the post office's response to record losses and declining mail volume as more people communicate electronically. The post office says they plan to close 2000 locations by next year.
That plan aims to adjust and streamline postal service after losses of 8.5 billion dollars in fiscal 2010. But some say those losses could be negated with a change to the post office pension funds. Steve Knight has more. more bill owens ·
