Senator Schumer tells Watertown audience he'll fight new border fees targeting Canadians
(11/24/11) New York Senator Charles Schumer was in Watertown yesterday to announce he'll fight a new fee that can be charged to Canadians crossing into the U.S. by boat or by plane. He appeared at the Paddock Arcade on Washington Street, an historic shopping center and one of many places in the north country where Canadian visitors may come to shop and eat. Todd Moe has more.

Federal legislators introduce bill to bring more aid to farmers affected by Irene

(09/08/11) US Congressman Bill Owens, with several other New York legislators, has introduced a bill to replenish two federal funds that help farmers rebuild after natural disasters.

The "Post-Irene Emergency Farm Aid Act", is also sponsored by US Representatives Chris Gibson, Maurice Hinche, and Paul Tonko...and Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gilibrand. It calls for 10 million dollars to go to the Farm Service Agency's emergency conservation program, and the Emergency watershed protection program. more

(03/21/11) The leader of one of the world's largest aluminum producers came to Massena Friday with good news. 115 workers are back on the job after a year-and-a-half shutdown of Alcoa East's three pot lines. Senator Chuck Schumer joined Alcoa CEO Klaus Kleinfeld for a hero's welcome. As David Sommerstein reports, the visit brought hope about Alcoa's long-term future in the North Country. more

(12/23/10) Yesterday, the US Senate passed a bill by a unanimous voice vote that offers billions of dollars of aid to workers who responded to the 9/11 attacks in New York City.

The measure goes next to President Barack Obama for his signature. It's seen as a major win for 9/11 rescue crews and first responders.

(09/03/10) After visits to Saratoga Springs and Plattsburgh yesterday, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer rode the back roads of St. Lawrence County to visit a small organic farm in Heuvelton. Schumer has taken on the nickname "the Brooklyn farmer" to tout his interest in New York agriculture. At Bittersweet Farm, he discussed efforts to stop fake organic products from China from entering the U.S. But his hosts wanted to convey a closer-to-home message, more support for local farms. Schumer promotes tourism bill
(08/30/10) U.S. Senator Charles Schumer made a swing through the Adirondacks Friday to promote legislation designed to boost tourism across the state and the country. Schumer was in Lake Placid, Tupper Lake and Blue Mountain Lake to boost support for the Travel Regional Investment Partnership Act, or TRIP Act, which would award federal grants to tourism destinations for infrastructure and marketing efforts.
